UFC 247: Jon Jones Versus Dominick Reyes

Houston’s Toyota Centre is going to witness one of the best fights of all time when two top UFC fighters Jones and Dominick are coming face to face for the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. The co-main event of the night is a women’s Flyweight Championship match where dangerous Katlyn Chookagian will face the champion, Valentina Shevchenko. However, the real meal of the night will be Jones vs. Reyes. Both of them have great records to their names. Let’s have a look at their records and career achievements.

Jon Jones has a phenomenal record of 22-1 and one no-contest. The only loss he faced was not a real loss where he was disqualified for throwing illegal elbows to the opponent. UFC president Dana White, later in a press conference, disagreed with the referee’s decision. He said it should be a no-contest as Jones didn’t intentionally throw elbows to his opponent.

Jon Jones won the UFC LHT back in 2011, beating Mauricio Rua. He defended his title against any opponent that came up against him. His biggest controversy includes the name, Danial Cormier. But, he managed to defeat him easily. He was stripped from his title in 2015 when he was found violating UFC’s Code of conduct and policies. After that, he came back and won his title back against Danial Cormier but again stripped from his title due to the usage of drugs and steroids. He came back in 2018 and since then he has defeated three opponents including Alexander Gustafson. His anger speaks for him when he enters the octagon. But, he never loses control and makes his moves wisely and that’s what makes him different from most of the Light Heavyweight fighters.

On the other hand, Dominick has a great record of 12-0. Yes, he is undefeated in his UFC career. 9 out of 12 bouts were special as he got fur technical knockouts, 2 submissions, and 3 clean knockouts. He is impressive and has some great punching abilities with some powerful blows.  He has won most of his fights in the first round. He earned a performance of the night bonus in his first UFC fight when he knocked out Joachim Christensen in the opening minute of the fight. In his latest fight against Chris Weidman back in 2018, he won the match via technical knockout in the opening round of the match and got a bonus as well.

What to Expect?

Both of the fighters have different strengths and strategies. Having approximately the same height and reach makes them equal for a second but nerves matter in UFC fights. Jones has been in bigger fights before and defeated big names, however, Reyes hasn’t been involved in bigger fights yet. So, there can be an immense pressure on Dominick while facing Jones. Jones would try to be aggressive as much as he can in the later rounds of the game. He is sensible and doesn’t let his opponent have a good shot at him.  However, no one can be so sure about any of the fights in UFC as games change in seconds there.
